About Split Sole Dance Academy
Split sole dance academy was founded by Artistic Director Dhiraj Bakshi of Dance India Dance season 4 and Jhalak Dikhlaja reloaded fame, in 2009. SSDA is a pioneer of its ace style Jazz Funk and was the first to introduce this style to the city. Apart from Jazz Funk, SSDA also trains it's company dancers and students in Contemporary, Ballet and Hip Hop. Split Sole conducts classes for all age groups in their studio across Mumbai in Santacruz west, bandra west, Andheri West and South Mumbai.
About Jazz Funk :
"Jazz Funk " is a unique combination of Jazz and Hip Hop. Jazz is a classical dance form that trains the body and posture, alignment, strength and flexibility while hip hop is groovy, stylish, cultural and grounded. Jazz Funk choreographies are intricate on musicality and often danced to pop songs. Advance Jazz Funk choreographies have a lot of influence of vouging, Waacking and punking.
Since Jazz Funk is a combination of Jazz and Hip Hop, the 75 minute class is divided into equal parts where students are taken through information that is essential to execute this dance form. A universal pattern of Jazz warm up is led by the instructor during which placement and posture are given primary importance and students are introduced to pirouettes, kicks and jumps. As students dance through their warm up, they build their strength and flexibility while having fun. During the Hip Hop part of the class, students are taught isolations and grooves which is the heart of Jazz Funk classes at SSDA. Therefore preparing the mind and body to learn a choreography sequence over eight classes.
"Contemporary " dance incorporates elements of different technical dance forms such as Jazz, Ballet and Modern. Apart from controlled leg work and emphasis on natural body movement Contemporary dance also focuses on contact release, floor work, fall and recovery and improvisation allowing students to express themselves freely.
Class Description :
At SSDA we train students in Contemporary Jazz. The class starts with a universal Jazz warm up pattern. Given the dynamic nature of this dance form, the class is divided into floor work technique, across the floor patterns, center work and choreography which originates from Jazz and Ballet.
