What is the GM diet and why does it work? Those are great questions to be asking yourself before you decide to embark upon this commitment to cleanse and detox based on a seemingly simple diet of fruit and vegetable. The core principle on which the GM diet operates is to help you reset your body’s detox mechanism and boost metabolism by putting you on a controlled intake of fruits and veggies. The diet plan aims to make you feel energetic and lighter after 7 days with weight loss as a happy by-product.

The GM diet has found many takers in India because it includes high amounts of vegetable and fruit intake that is perfect for our weather and existing dietary preferences. The protein component of the GM diet can easily be substituted with paneer/soy and spinach to give you the full weight loss and detox benefit of the GM diet.

In the week before you intend to start the diet plan ensure that you ease yourself into the routine by doing simple things like avoiding alcohol the week prior, gradually increasing your water intake, exercising consistently even if only for a short period of time. Stock up on fruits and veggies that are prescribed for the different days so that you aren’t tempted to stray from the diet because you came home late from work and discovered that you’re out of bananas!

The diet plan is as follows:

  • Day 1. All fruits. All kinds of fruit may be consumed except for bananas. 10-12 glasses of water should be consumed throughout the day.

  • Day 2. All vegetables. All sorts of vegetables may be consumed during the second day. Potatoes may be served during breakfast to boost energy levels and needs some good fat like ghee or olive oil. A mixture of greens and boiled vegetables as well as the GM diet wonder soup may be served during lunch and dinner.

  • Day 3. A mixture of fruits and vegetables. A mix of fruits and vegetables may be consumed on Day 3, together with 10-12 glasses of water. Bananas are still not allowed on this day.

  • Day 4. Banana and milk. Skim milk and banana, together with the GM wonder soup or any type of vegetable soup may be served on this day. For Indian practitioners, yogurt may be served instead of skim milk.

  • Day 5. Brown rice, curd, and tomatoes. Soybean curd or 1 cup of brown rice may be used as a substitute for beef or a cup of cottage cheese. Tomatoes are important to match with the day’s meal, along with cucumbers.

  • Day 6. Brown rice, cooked or uncooked vegetables of your choice with 8-12 glasses of water.https://www.fitternity.com/onepass

  • Day 7. Brown rice with any vegetable of your choice with fresh fruit juices.

The myth around the GM diet is that weight loss during the week of dieting is regained easily once you go back to your old eating habits. The key to staving off kilos after completing the diet is to keep elements of the GM diet integrated into your daily meals.  Switching to brown rice from white rice, hydrating regularly, eating healthy portions of mildly cooked vegetables with lunch and dinner are practices that must be implemented daily. The goal is to detox so you can kick-start your system and consistently maintain healthy eating habits and not revert to eating carelessly because you detoxed for a week.
